Acupressure
Acupressure is the ancient art of healing, which uses finger pressure on key points of the body, to stimulate the body's natural energy systems to promote health.
It employs the same diagnostic methods as in Traditional Chinese Medicine to investigate the health problems of the patient. Acupressure massage applies gentle, effective finger pressure, to acupuncture points to rebalance the energy flow.
Acupressure is often used for localised musculoskeletal problems. As a point is stimulated by finger pressure, the underlying muscle / tissue relaxes stimulating the blood circulation to nourish the structures freely and to remove the localised toxins from the painful area. Acupressure is also be used to treat all health problems in the same way as acupuncture.
Colin Widdup uses acupressure where the patient is too young or too frail to receive needles (or too afraid!!) Colin Widdup also teaches acupressure to patients so that they can continue their treatment at home. Colin also teaches Qi Gong and discusses dietary therapy and appropriate lifestyle changes to provide a full holistic experience.
| Acupuncture |
TOP |
Acupuncture treats a wide range of health problems from simple joint injuries to long term debilitating illnesses. Acupuncture complements orthodox medicine and can often help when there is no clear medical diagnosis available e.g. chronic fatigue. Acupuncture is safe, yet powerful and is without side affects. It is appropriate for people of all ages, children to the elderly.
Acupuncture points lie on energy pathways or channels. When a person is healthy the energy flows smoothly and strongly through these channels. If the energy is disrupted then illness will occur.
To correct these problems by Acupuncture, a number of very fine sterile needles are inserted into the acupuncture points to regulate the flow of energy in the channels and restore the normal balance. The needles are left in place for about 20 minutes. The points selected are specific for the individual and their specific illness. Most people would need several treatment sessions to restore the body’s normal energy flow and to restore health.
Five Elements Acupucture is an ancient style of acupuncture. The observation and experience of Nature is a major part of understanding people and illness. Emphasis is placed on nourishing the Element which is most imbalanced; the constitutional imbalance.
Therefore in diagnosis, examination of the pulse & tongue and finding the predominant unbalanced emotion are more important than a list of symptoms.
In other words, we treat the root, the person and not the illness or symptoms.
Treating the root enhances the health and wellbeing of the person. Physical and mental complaints naturally fade away.
Once the main problems are under control, many patients return for preventative treatments aimed at keeping the Five Elements in balance. Colin Widdup practices both TCM and Five Element Acupuncture. See Traditional Chinese Medicine below.
What is the Aqua Detox Machine? The Aqua Detox™ is a revolutionary new way to detoxify and rebalance the body.
It is an extremely pleasant experience that only requires the feet to be immersed in tepid water for 30 minutes. You can actually see your toxins emerging into the water from the pores in your feet by watching the colour change.
Why is Aqua Detox™ a good way to detoxify my body? Once the cells are detoxified, they can receive more oxygen and nutrients, and the body will become more healthy. People have reported becoming more energetic, less fuzzy-headed, having a reduction in pain from joints – and feeling more positive and optimistic. I have also known clients to report that they are sleeping better, that swollen joints have reduced, and one writer even claimed that using the Aqua Detox™ had removed their “writer’s block”!
Laboratory analysis has shown that it is possible to cleanse the body of heavy metals such as aluminium and mercury, asbestos, residue from chemotherapy treatment, old vaccinations and even traces of cocaine from use 20 years previously!
What other problems may benefit from using the Aqua Detox™ Machine?
It can be used to improve:-
| liver and kidney function |
menstrual pain |
| circulation |
skin problems |
| general metabolism |
mercury & heavy metal detoxification |
| arthritis |
generally to balance the whole body |
| headaches |
can also be used as part of an existing detox diet plan |
Contraindications to treatment As a safety precaution, it is not advisable for the following people to use the Aqua Detox ™ : (If in doubt please consult your doctor)
| Anyone with a pacemaker |
Anyone with implanted organs |
| During pregnancy |
Epileptics or someone having had seizures |
How many treatments will I need? Most people need between 6 and 8 treatments at approximately weekly intervals. The cost is £25 per treatment During the sessions, you can choose whether you sit peacefully alone to relax, or you can enjoy complementary health and lifestyle advice from complementary health practitioner Janice Hocking KFRP.
| Aromatherapy |
TOP |
The value of natural plant oils has been recognised for more than 6000 years, for their healing, cleansing, preservative and mood-enhancing properties as well as for the pleasure of their fragrances. The art of aromatherapy harnesses these aromatic essences to restore the harmony of body mind and spirit disrupted by stress, pollution, unhealthy diet and hectic lifestyle.
French chemist, Rene-Maurice Gattefosse first used the term `Aromatherapie' to describe the therapeutic action of aromatic plant essences in 1928. Dr Jean Valnet discovered the regenerative and antiseptic properties of essential oils were most beneficial for healing the wounds of World War II soldiers. Marguerite Maury pioneered the use of essential oils in massage.
There are many ways of using aromatherapy. Essential oils in carrier oils can be used with massage. Oils can be used in a burner or on tissue for inhalation.
As essential oils have very powerful effects upon the body they should only be used under the guidance of a qualified practitioner.
Audrey Roberts, Gilian Wright, Janice Hocking and Margaret Davis all use Aromatherapy oils in their practices.
| Art therapy - the person centred way |
TOP |
Art Therapy evolved during World War 2 and has subsequently developed in various forms.
Liesl Silverstone created Person Centred Art therapy under the guidance of Carl Rogers, the father of Person Centred Theory. By combining her art therapy skills and Person Centred counselling skills, she developed a new empowering force of healing.
In addition to counselling therapy support, you will be encouraged to relax and allow images to emerge which you then describe in art form. Your images become visible for you to explore, allowing you to discover hidden meaning within your unconscious mind.
Person Centred Art Therapy removes the limitations of words, rational and logic thinking; rather it allows the more spontaneous, intuitive, knowing wisdom of the unconscious mind to express itself. It takes you away from the hard world of thinking into the potentially safer world of dreaming and knowing.
Working with images can often feel safer than talking about ‘me’ and so often is equally powerful and transforming. Mary Gorney offers Art Therapy.
| Assimilation Kinesiology |
TOP |
This new kinesiology treatment was developed by Janice Hocking KFRP and is now being taught to kinesiology practitioners all around the country.
Janice’s clients can experience this treatment first-hand, and people are enjoying fundamental changes to their health and wellbeing after having Assimilation.
Assimilation Kinesiology takes place in the usual way, with the client lying fully clothed on the couch. Muscle testing is used to identify particular weaknesses in the client’s subtle energy system and the aroma of essential oils plus other techniques is used to repair and rebalance the system.
What is a subtle energy system? Most people don’t realise that they are essentially electro-magnetic beings! We project a field of electro-magnetic energy from our bodies which can now be measured by certain sophisticated computer devices. This field is more often called ‘an aura’ and we also have energy centres called ‘chakras’ lined up along the front of our body.
The health of the aura and chakras is essential to our physical and mental health, and by realigning and renewing these areas, amazing changes can be felt in the body and mind.
| Bowen Technique |
TOP |
Bowen is an extremely gentle, hands-on holistic muscle release therapy used in humans and animals. It was pioneered by Thomas Ambrose Bowen born in 1916 in Australia.
How does it work? The technique appears to activate the body's own beating abilities, releasing muscle spasms and re-aligning skeletal imbalances as well as increasing lymphatic drainage and blood supply to the affected areas to enhance healing.
The treatments. The practitioner uses her hands on specific parts of the body such as muscle and other soft tissue, using gentle rolling movements with a view to activating communication between nerve endings and the brain to facilitate healing. This aims to restore natural pain free movement.
The treatment sessions are about an hour. The minimum number of treatments is two. Treatment can be given through light clothing. If, after three treatments there is no improvement we go no further.
It is ideal to have regular maintenance treatments every few months to stay healthy and active. Sportsmen and women find this benefits their performance. Most people find the treatments deeply relaxing and an opportunity for self healing.
What conditions can Bowen treat? Bowen can be safely used from babies to the elderly. Animals also seem to enjoy their opportunity to relax and de-stress.
As it is holistic Bowen will help heal the individual as a whole. People come with a variety of complaints such as back, hip, knee, ankle, shoulder, tennis elbow, sports injuries, RSL, neck jaw problems, migraine, hayfever, tinnitus, sinus, catarrh, tight hamstrings, muscle spasm, asthma, kidney, menstrual problems, PW., digestive problems, ME., low energy, depleted immune system, depression, stress, the list is endless.
Horses. Loss of performance, irritability, uneven muscle development, uneven shoe wear, stiffness on one rein, lameness, back problems, etc. Idea!ly horse and rider are both treated.
Dogs and other animals. Most disorders can be treated. As Bowen is holistic and gentle animals seem to enjoy their treatments.

Brain Gym was devised over 30 years ago by a kinesiologist who was dyslexic himself.
The main principle is that the brain is in two halves – the right half controls the left side of the body, and the left half controls the right side of the body. The two halves also have slightly different functions, with logic and language being mainly on the left, and creativity and music being on the right [in most people]. If the communication between the two halves is impaired in any way, then there may be a slight dysfunction such as language difficulties, dyslexia, attention deficit, learning problems.
By using the Brain Gym series of simple exercises, the pathways between the two halves of the brain are enhanced, and learning becomes easier.
To achieve the best results, it is necessary for the exercises to be practised regularly in between sessions.
Contact Janice Hocking for further information about Brain Gym.
| Counselling Therapeutic Services |
TOP |
Counselling is for people who find themselves in need of someone to confide in. The person may be struggling with difficulties in their private or working lives or have become ill, and are seeking experienced help within a private setting. They may wish to change aspects of themselves or their lives.
Counselling offers support, encouragement and guidance to relax and explore difficulties. Present circumstances and relationships will be looked at and maybe circumstances and relationships in the past. As the client begins to understand more of themselves and how they relate to other people they will discover solutions to their problems, gain more control and feel much better within themselves.
Some of the more common problems are:
| stress & recurring symptoms |
post traumatic distress |
| relationships at home & at work |
child & adolescent difficulties |
| significant life changes i.e. death, divorce, illness, disability, redundancy |
blocks in achieving life’s goals |
| anxiety, depression & phobias |
emotional, physical & sexual abuse |
| low self esteem, self worth & self confidence |
bullying & sexual harassment |
ABOUT CRYSTALS The Earth is approx. 4.6 billion years old. Many crystals are as old as the Earth. Many are believed to be older, originating from somewhere in outer space. Crystals are constantly being formed and many new varieties are discovered as the oldest ones become very rare.
How do they work? Think of crystals as tools. They enable you to do the job more effectively. They are like amplifiers – speeding the process of healing. Each crystal has one molecule which is repeated throughout its structure. We are made up of billions of molecules. When we are ill, the molecules are out of tune – a bit like an orchestra playing off key. A crystal can act like a tuning fork – one note to which everything else can be tuned in so that harmony is restored.
Nature has produced these wonderful tools to help us reassess our lives and receive answers to a variety of questions about our health, or what decisions we should take, the paths we should follow. Life is for living, for fun and happiness. If our lives are not proceeding in this way, we need to take appropriate steps to restore us to our natural state of wellbeing.
Janice Hocking offers crystal therapy.
| Emotional Freedom Technique |
TOP |
This amazingly simple, yet powerfully effective technique has been sweeping across America and now the UK. The treatment evolved as a simplified version of Thought Field Therapy, pioneered by Roger Callaghan [a kinesiologist] in the 1970’s. In the hands of a trained practitioner it is able to relieve negative emotions and other stresses that have been affecting the body and mind for years, and amazingly it can also be learned by the patient and used to great effect at home.
The technique involves tapping gently on various points corresponding to the ends of the energy meridians that run throughout the body. These are the same meridians used by acupuncturists and kinesiologists, but in this case gentle stimulation of the meridians by tapping is enough to release the energy blockages caused by negative emotions and physical symptoms.
The treatment can be done fully clothed, and it is not necessary to lie down.
Imagine if you had a phobia, say of water, flying or spiders, and within half an hour it could either disappear or be reduced to a slight discomfort!
Imagine if you were subject to headaches, and you then had the means to release each headache as it appeared, but without the use of toxic painkillers!
Imagine if you had to go for an interview, or speak in public, but were so nervous you couldn’t remember anything. By using EFT on yourself, you could calm yourself and remember everything!
Imagine if you had a deep, simmering anger at someone which couldn’t be expressed, and resulted in depression, and that it could be released safely, leaving you feeling lighter and ore at peace.
All this is within the scope of EFT, so why not try it – life may never be the same again!
Karen Riley offers EFT.
| Flower Remedies |
TOP |
Dr Edward Bach (1886-1936) discovered the power of flower remedies for healing in his research between 1928 and 1935. His medical researches had led him to the understanding that much of our ill health is due to our emotional and mental state, which causes dis-ease in the physical body.
Dr Bach was a homeopath as well as a doctor of medicine and his flower remedies are homeopathically prepared plant and flower based remedies, each one specially devised to treat a different feeling or emotion.
Since Dr Bach discovered Flower Remedies several other practitioners have enlarged upon the Flower Remedy repertoire. Among some of the more well known are Australian Bush and Bailey’s Flower Essences.
Flower remedies work by stimulating the body’s own capacity for healing, by balancing negative feelings or emotions, helping you to take control, feel good about yourself and get more out of life. They are suitable for all the family and are simple to use.
Flower remedies help us to cope with the stresses and strains of life from impending exams, driving test or a visit to the dentist, through break up of relationships, even trouble with sleeping. There are prescriptions, which can help those giving up smoking or aiming to lose weight. (However the remedy will not make you give up smoking or lose weight on its own!)
The Remedies are suitable for women, men, children and pets, they help with anxieties, fears, grief and many other emotional states. They can be taken alongside any prescribed medication you are already taking without side effects
Remedies are prepared as a prescription designed for you individually; they may be taken alongside any medication prescribed by your doctor without side effects. They are completely natural and safe to use at any time. There is no limit on how many times you can take them or for how long.
Janice Hocking uses flower remedies in her practice.
| Geopathic Stress |
TOP |
What is Geopathic Stress? Geopathic Stress is the name given to natural or man-made energies emanating from the earth which are detrimental to human health.
Geopathic energies do not recognise boundaries, as they can pass through walls, windows and closed doors. The effects of GS undermine and weaken a person’s life force, thus causing ill health or even just ‘feeling under par’ .
Examples of things that cause GS are not only ley lines (man-made energy lines) and disturbances caused by underground water [either flowing or stagnant], but also natural, geological structures such as ore deposits, and man-made structures such as mining or large buildings, foundations, sewage and water pipes, underground transport systems. We also count electro-magnetic pollution in the form of overhead or underground cables, phone masts and electricity generating stations, or sub-stations.
Why is GS important to health? Living or working in an area with high Geopathic Stress can cause illness in susceptible individuals, which is why some people will suffer and others won’t. If a person has been ill and is trying to heal, then GS may lengthen the healing process, or even stop it altogether.
If the exposure to geopathic energies is short-lived, then in general the effects are transitory, although some people will show symptoms of tiredness, inattention and headaches when sitting in a geopathically stressed area for even one or two hours. But imagine the cumulative effect of years spent sleeping in the same bedroom, or sitting in the same chair in the office, and you will realise that a person’s exposure to a particular form of detrimental energy could be devastating for their health and wellbeing.
What symptoms might indicate that I have GS?
• A slow deterioration in health in those who are most susceptible to GS.
• Feeling unaccountably depressed.
• Disturbed sleep, waking often, strange dreams, wake feeling tired
• Babies and children fret and don’t sleep well
• Restlessness
• General tiredness
• ‘Sick building syndrome’
• Inability to get well and stay well
• Immune system problems
• Repeated miscarriages or infertility problems
• Birth defects
• Any other symptom, but especially ME, headaches, hyperactivity, some cancers
• A general feeling of something being not ‘quite right’ with a particular area or room
• Cracks or damp in a building that keeps re-occurring
• Menstrual problems - some energies affect only women, as they vibrate with their ovaries.
GS often goes to the person’s weakest point, producing illness there, eg. throat, stomach. Therefore, in this case the GS brings out an underlying weakness in the body.
If a negative energy line crosses them where they sleep, it may be that particular part of the body that is affected, e.g. painful or arthritic knees. If you are ill, first try moving your bed to a different spot, and if that improves matters, the chances are you have GS in your bedroom.
If I think I have GS, how do I go about correcting it? Janice Hocking is trained to locate and correct Geopathic Stress. See listing under ‘Health Kinesiology’.
Janice can use a variety of methods such as muscle testing, dowsing and intuition to locate the source and intensity of GS in your home or workplace. Following that she will evaluate ways of counteracting the detrimental energies and making your home or workplace a safe and healthy place to be.
These methods need not be expensive or difficult to achieve, but she needs to visit your home once or twice to carry out an assessment and then to implement the changes, she may make an extra charge for travelling etc.
| Health Kinesiology |
TOP |
Health Kinesiology [pronounced ‘kin-easy-ology’] is an holistic complementary therapy that uses ‘muscle testing’ to identify and supply your body’s specific needs for health improvement. Muscle testing is a gentle way of accessing information from the body’s own inner wisdom, telling the therapist exactly what treatment the body requires, and in which order, to maximise healing.
There is no need to undress, and HK is perfectly safe for any age group, even pregnant women, tiny babies, or the elderly. The client simply lies comfortably on a couch, raising one forearm at 90º. The therapist then presses gently on the arm, gauging the response of the muscle to a series of questions. This simple form of biofeedback, when combined with precise and logical questioning, can create an individual selection of physical and emotional energy corrections that release stress from the energy meridians that run throughout the body. Corrections can also be applied to the subtle energy system [the aura] and the chakras [energy centres].
In order to address imbalances throughout the mind-body-spirit, an HK therapy session might include any of the following: thinking about a stressful area of your life, moving into certain positions where trauma occurred [eg whiplash, traumatic birth], inhaling essential oils, using homeopathics or flower remedies, magnets, crystals and coloured light. In each case, energy blockages are removed from the meridians and tissues of the body, leaving you feeling lighter, more relaxed and able to cope.
Health Kinesiology is probably the fastest-growing of the kinesiologies in the UK today, but is still relatively unknown to the majority of people, despite the fact that its gentleness belies the transformative power of the energy corrections performed during an HK session.
For more information, please have a look at the HK website: www.hk4health.com or contact Janice Hocking.
What is it? Homeopathy is a highly effective and scientific system of medicine which assists the natural tendency of the body to heal itself. It achieves this by using specially prepared medicines which are deep acting and lasting, but are without side effects. It is therefore suitable for people of all ages from newborn to elderly and is safe for pregnant and breast feeding mothers. Each person is given an individual medicine as we all express our disease in a unique way. Symptoms are regarded as the results of the dis-ease rather than the disease itself. To use an analogy, it is not the snow that causes the winter but the winter that causes the snow. In the same way it is not the symptoms which are the cause of the disease but the disease which causes the symptoms. Homeopathy treats the internal imbalance which causes the disease.
How does it work? Homeopathy is based on a law of nature called the Law of Similars. What a substance can cause it can cure. For example when we cut an onion we may experience stinging runny eyes and nose, and a particular soreness in the throat. The homeopathic medicine made from the onion can cure someone with these specific symptoms in e.g. hayfever.
What conditions can it treat? Homeopathy is able to treat people with a wide range of illnesses ranging from anxiety to arthritis, headaches, irritable bowel, respiratory disorders, hormonal problems, behavioural and learning difficulties in children, ME, cancer, skin problems, sleeplessness, depression etc. People who have had successful homeopathic treatment find that their general state of health and well-being improves. They are better able to resist infection and have a greater sense of stability and individual purpose.

Contrary to popular belief, hypnosis is not a state of deep sleep. It does involve the induction of a trance-like state, but when in it, the patient is actually in an enhanced state of awareness, in this state the conscious mind is suppressed and the unconscious mind is revealed.
Hypnosis is a natural state, each and every one of us goes in and out of trance several times a day, for example when we are day -dreaming, concentrating, falling asleep or even watching the television.
Hypnosis is a different state of consciousness which you can naturally enter so that beneficial suggestions may be given directly to your unconscious mind.
Hypnosis is an effective way of making contact with our inner (unconscious) self, which is both a reservoir of unrecognised potential and knowledge as well as being the unwitting source of many of our problems.
It is a fact that no-one can be hypnotised against their will and even when hypnotised, a person can still reject any suggestion. Therapeutic hypnosis is a state of purposeful co-operation.
Karen Riley is a qualified hypnotherapist.
| Hypnotherapy |
TOP |
Hypnotherapy aims to re-programme patterns of behaviour within the mind, enabling irrational fears, phobias, negative thoughts and suppressed emotions to be overcome.
As the body is released from conscious control during the relaxed trance-like state of hypnosis, breathing becomes slower and deeper, the pulse rate drops and the metabolic rate falls. Other changes enable the sensation of pain and the awareness of unpleasant symptoms to become less acute or alleviated.
Hypnotherapy involves the patient experiencing a sense of deep relaxation and wellbeing with their attention focused on appropriate suggestions made by the therapist. These suggestions help people make positive changes within themselves.
It is generally accepted that ALL hypnosis is ultimately self-hypnosis. A hypnotherapist helps to facilitate your experience - hypnotherapy is not about being made to do things, in fact it is the opposite, it is about empowerment!
A professionally trained Clinical Hypnotherapist will be able to use a wide variety of hypnotic techniques, so that therapy can be tailored to the individual patient.
Hypnotherapy can be applied to many psychological, emotional and physical disorders.
Karen Riley is a qualified hypnotherapist.
| Indian Head Massage |
TOP |
Indian Head Massage was originally developed by women as part of their grooming routine to keep their hair strong and in beautiful condition, and to keep their scalp healthy. For men, a visit to the barbers will always include a head massage designed to stimulate the client’s scalp. Interestingly, the western word ‘shampoo’ is derived from the Hindi word ‘champi’, which means ‘having your head massaged.’
The advantage of Indian Head Massage is that it can be carried out anywhere, for instance at home, in a salon, in a nursing home etc. There is no need to disrobe, as Indian Head Massage can be performed fully clothed.
Indian Head Massage is a truly holistic therapy that aims to balance the mind, body and spirit, because it has a far-reaching effect on every system of the body. It has numerous short- and long-term therapeutic benefits:
| Improving the function of the circulatory system |
Increased mobility of the joints |
| Relief of tension headaches and eye strain |
Stimulating the lymphatic system
|
| Promoting hair growth and improving healthy-looking skin |
Relaxing the muscular system |
These are just a few of the benefits of this relaxing treatment. In addition, Indian Head Massage works extremely well alongside orthodox medicine. A gentle and natural treatment, it does not have any adverse side effects.
Claire Clarke offers Indian Head Massage.
In order to perform an iridology session, the practitioner will have to look closely into your eyes for quite a long time, using a small light and a magnifying glass. A photograph of the eye may be taken and used for study later.
By mapping various tiny signs in the eye, it is possible to tell you what sort of diseases you are genetically susceptible to and also how your lifestyle to date has contributed to your current symptoms.
Following this, lifestyle and nutritional advice may be given in order to prevent any further degeneration and to correct imbalances that have already occurred.
Iridology can be performed at any stage of life, but is most useful before any major changes have occurred.

Several of the therapies use massage as an integral part of their treatment. See acupressure, aromatherapy, bowen therapy, reflexology and also no hands massage, below.
| Optimum Health Balance (kinesiology) |
TOP |
This healing system was developed over many years by the late Charles Benham. Charles converted the system of finger-modes used by other kinesiologies into a simple-to-operate system of symbols or icons. By muscle-testing through the list of icons, the practitioner can quickly and easily identify various weaknesses and malfunctions in the body.
Once these weaknesses have been found, they can be programmed into the body’s ‘bio-computer’ using a simple technique, and can then be eliminated by a special corrective technique. The body’s own healing and repair systems are then free to make the necessary changes.
Each OHB session brings the body to 100% of the optimum health that it is capable of at that time. Each session builds upon the last, and the body’s health level gradually rises each time. Janice Hocking offers Kinesiology.
| Reflexology |
TOP |
Reflexology is based on the presence of ten energy zones within the body. This energy division was discovered in the late19th century by an American Dr. William Fitzgerald, an ear nose and throat specialist. While working in hospitals in Paris, Vienna and London, Fitzgerald discovered that he could relieve pain in one part of a patient’s body by applying pressure to another. He refined his technique learning that if he applied pressure to the fingers by using an elastic band on the middle segment of each finger and a small metal clamp on each tip, he could create local anaesthetic effects on the arm, side of the neck, eye, ear and face. These were very crude forms of anaesthesia.
With Reflexology, your body’s health is reflected in your feet. The various organs, nerves and glands in your body are connected with certain ‘reflex areas’ on the soles, toes, tops and sides of your feet. By applying pressure to specific areas on the feet, remarkable healing effects are noted in seemingly unconnected and unrelated distant regions.
Reflexology is for all the family. It is a safe and simple process which promotes better health by reducing stress and tension, strengthening the body’s ability to resist disease, flushing toxins out of the system, and improving circulation so the body can heal itself. Moreover, reflexing helps achieve protection from health-destroying mental and physical tensions.
Reflexology stands the test of time by adhering to the profound message that the forces present in the buildings of our bodies are still available for its healing. This therapy makes direct use of these forces by gently removing the blocks to the inherent, healing capabilities of the body.
Claire Clarke offers Reflexology.
Reiki (pronounced Ray-Key) is a Japanese word meaning "Universal Life Force Energy". It was a method of healing which had been lost for centuries until Dr. Usui rediscovered it in the late 19th century and it was he who gave it the name.
Reiki is made up of two syllables Rei and Ki, which the Japanese alphabet defines as
| Rei - Universal, Transcendental spirit, mysterious power, essence |
| Ki - Vital life force energy, something like Chi of Chinese acupuncture, Light Or Holy Ghost to Christians. This is the energy that flows through all living Things. |
Reiki is a natural, hands-on healing method. The energy from the Universal Life Force is channelled through the hands of the therapist to the recipient. The hand positions mirror the chakra energy points of the body, which in turn mirror the Endocrine system.
Reiki functions on all levels of mind, body and spirit, promoting balance, loosening blocked energies, cleansing the body of toxins and stimulating the body's own natural ability to heal itself. Most metaphysical practitioners believe that all physical pain has non physical roots such as emotional trauma, negativity or spiritual depression - in other words dis-ease.
Reiki will work in whatever way the recipient needs it most. The majority of people find that it is a deeply relaxing experience. It also complements traditional medicine and other alternative therapies. Reiki is also effective on animals, birds and plants.
Audrey Roberts and Janice Hocking offer Reiki. Contact Audrey Roberts for information on Reiki Courses.
This healing energy was known in ancient Egyptian times, and was rediscovered recently by Helen Belot. It predates Reiki, since its origins are within Egypt and before that, Lemuria and Atlantis. The Living Light Energy, is the healing power practiced and taught in the temples of ancient Egypt. The hieroglyphs for this powerful energy are found etched on the sides of the pyramids and within the tombs and there are many references made to Sekhem in the scrolls found in the pyramids and ancient ruins of the temples.
The actual word means "power" or "might" in a spiritual connotation and the energy is gentle feminine and loving.
It is very similar to Reiki, in that it is a channelled energy, coming through the healer, not from them, but the practise is different as part of a treatment is "hands off'. It works on the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual levels. Sekhem is relaxing and energising at the same time. Contact Audrey Roberts or Janice Hocking for more information.

| Spiritual Healing |
TOP |
Spiritual Healing has been practiced across the world for thousands of years. Spiritual healing complements conventional medicine to help people recover from illness, injury or distress. It balances the mind body and spirit to bring about a true state of inner harmony. Bringing the recipient to a full, happy and healthy life with a deeper awareness of inner peace. Spiritual healers usually recognise the source of the healing energy as God, sometimes the energy is described as the Life Force.
Spiritual healing is a natural energy being channelled through the healer to the patient, who does not need to have any religious belief or faith at all.
Healing takes place fully clothed with the healer placing their hands on or above the body of the recipient. The recipient will feel warm, comfortable and relaxed throughout the treatment. They will leave the treatment with an enhanced feeling of love and wellbeing.
Spiritual healing is often used with the terminally ill as an adjunct to conventional treatment. It can be used on all ages from babies to the elderly. Absent healing is also possible where the recipient of the treatment cannot be present. Please ask for further details.
Audrey Roberts offers Spiritual Healing. Contact her for help and advice.
| Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)
|
TOP |
Traditional Chinese Medicine is based on the identification of patterns of energetic disharmony, which affect the normal functioning of the body’s key organs (Heart, Lungs, Liver, Spleen, Kidneys and other organs).
To diagnose the problems involved, the qualified practitioner will ask questions about all aspects of the client’s health - physical, emotional, dietary and lifestyle factors in addition to appropriate physical examination including pulse and tongue.
Some illnesses are superficial, or acute conditions, relating mostly to pain, or invasions of pathogens such as a virus.
Internal disharmonies are chronic long-term illnesses where the internal energy patterns have altered.
Traditional Chinese Medicine has five strands, Chinese herbs, Acupuncture and acupressure, exercise – Qi Gong and Tai Chi, Massage and dietary therapy. The therapist uses combinations of these strands to rebalance the body’s energy flow to restore and promote health. Colin Widdup offers TCM including all the above therapies.
